 On Sunday, May 19, 1985, ground breaking ceremonies were held, and contruction was soon underway on a seven-acre tract of land at the intersection of Matthews Street and FM 1816.

At the 1985 consecration of the new church, Diocese of Fort Worth Bishop Joseph Patrick Delaney concelebrated Mass with Father Hennessey. Gracing the Mass were the angelic voices of the choirs and college quartet.

Today, about 40 Catholic families in Bowie continue the tradition of lifting their voices to God at St. Jerome Catholic Parish.
